Making Woodworking Wax Paste - 3 Ways

All-natural, very old-fashioned recipes for anyone who has wood

Here are currently the best tried and true recipes I’ve found for creating a simple, natural finish for your wood. They’re 3 recipes but use variations of the same ingredients: Bee’s wax and boiled linseed oil.

Hard wax: Excellent rust protectant for carving tools, saws, chisels, planes, etc… Any cast iron really.

Medium wax: Used for durable wood finishes, like tool handles.

Soft wax: Applied with steel wool all across and into the grain, and used as a finish, probably used most (after straight BLO). Used instead of plain Finish Wax and can be experimented with Tung oil and colors and all sorts of additives. ADVICE: Use a respirator when using chemicals! They cause cancer.

WAX RECIPES

  • Medium/Usual: 1/3 wax to 1/2 boiled linseed oil/flax seed oil (same thing)

  • Hard: 1 Cup of Wax to 1/2 cup of oil.

  • Fluid: 1 Cup of oil to 1/3 wax.

Place ingredients into a double boiler and melt the bee’s wax. CAREFULLY Pour into a non-meltable container and refrigerate until desired solidity/viscosity. The hard wax can be popped out to use like Surfboard Sex Wax.

Hey! My last post of 2022 with a minute to go. How about that?
