Post Number Three: Decisions and a SubStack Roadmap Evolve
I've weighed the pros, cons and what I may be considered an expert in that people may want to know about. It turns out at may age, that's a lot. Including a lot of weird things it turns out.
I really wanted my first post here to be my forthcoming “Why You Should Decide Who You’re Voting for ACROSS THE BOARD in This Impending Red Wave of Destruction.” But since I already blew that, it frees my constraints some.
Despite the title and the post having to do with politics and the election, please hear me out before you run away screaming. Or worse.
But as I explained in my last post, I’m moving my stuff over here from my long-time WP blog, https://mmusgrove.com. I’ve been in the WordPress World I can’t even remember how long it’s been. I remember my very first WordCamp in 2011?, where Pippin Williamson spoke. I have it on video somewhere. That guy should be a billionaire by now.
But my aim here is to teach my young daughter how to grow up happy and healthy and fulfilled. She’s in a place/age now where if something were to happen to me, the WP blog would just be shut down and that would be that. And I’ve put a LOT of time and work in hard and personally earned lessons I don’t want her to have to learn for herself.
I still believe it’s the parent’s job to teach personal finance, for example. I have an MBA, and should put that to some good use, no? And I may even be able to help teach some others that don’t or haven’t had exposure to things such as basic budgeting. I can help with that. And I want to.
So, from my understanding, once these posts are up and SubStack exists, which it appears to be on fairly solid ground at the moment financially and managerially, my little girl will be able to access them somehow. That’s an improvement upon @medium’s model, which I’ve researched tirelessly. Jack Dorsey and crew are nuts, and I just don’t have much confidence in my material being preserved and, more importantly, protected, as I need it to be. That’s even a business model I’ve considered: Paying a firm to maintain your online assets for generations after you die. What do you think?
But what I’m being most deliberate about is a transition to video. It’s faster for everyone once finished. And it feels more permanent than text, so I want to get it as right as I can. I have tripods and cameras all around me preparing, in fact. The webcam in my MacBook Pro retina is leaving something to be desired. But I have a strange, and quickly growing list of video posts I want to do. The next is the first. And yes, some may want to find it political, which I admit it is in nature, it’s more than that. It’s a warning to other parents and a tale or two you may find unbelievable. So stay tuned. Things are heating up.
EDIT: I’ve now posted it, and here it is.
